Hi again,
OK, got some info that may be helpful...see below.
Message says I don't have 'valid partition table'....
How do I fix this now?
Thanks!
Mark
[root@localhost root]# fdisk
Usage: fdisk [-l] [-b SSZ] [-u] device
E.g.: fdisk /dev/hda (for the first IDE disk)
or: fdisk /dev/sdc (for the third SCSI disk)
or: fdisk /dev/eda (for the first PS/2 ESDI drive)
or: fdisk /dev/rd/c0d0 or: fdisk /dev/ida/c0d0 (for RAID devices)
...
[root@localhost root]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/hda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk /dev/hda doesn't contain a valid partition table
Disk /dev/hdb: 122.9 GB, 122942324736 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 238216 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes
Disk /dev/hdb doesn't contain a valid partition table
[root@localhost root]# fdisk p
Unable to open p
[root@localhost root]# fdisk -p
fdisk: invalid option -- p
Usage: fdisk [-b SSZ] [-u] DISK Change partition table
fdisk -l [-b SSZ] [-u] DISK List partition table(s)
fdisk -s PARTITION Give partition size(s) in blocks
fdisk -v Give fdisk version
Here DISK is something like /dev/hdb or /dev/sda
and PARTITION is something like /dev/hda7
-u: give Start and End in sector (instead of cylinder) units
-b 2048: (for certain MO disks) use 2048-byte sectors
[root@localhost root]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/hda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Thanks for trying to help...
When I hold 'd' at startup I boot into YDL.
When I hold 'd' at startup I boot into OSX, at first see gray apple then a
circle with diagonal line through it.
Tried command df -k....see terminal text shown below. It shows problem I'm
having identifying proper hard drive partition to do pdisk update.
Can you or others advise...need to get back into OS X on my desktop
Mac...thank goodness I have a iBook as backup....;-)
Thanks!
Mark

Try booting holding the "d" key (default finds first system on disk)
Try booting holding the "x" key (should force os x)
df -k shows partition names
