iBook battery issue - ?

I was running OS X.2.x as I normally do, but on battery power, on my 
iBook 500 MHz. The battery level read something like 86% shortly before 
I decided to switch over to YDL. Within a minute after booting up YDL, 
I got a message saying that my battery was about to crap out. By the 
time I clicked the "Okay" button, my iBook went to sleep.

I checked the battery level by pushing the button on the actual 
battery, and it did in fact show that all the juice was gone.

Any thoughts on this? I can't imagine YDL requiring a full battery to 
boot up, and I've never had any problems with my battery before (though 
I doubt if it would last up to 5 hours as it is supposed to be able to 
do, under most any condition). This was the first time I ever tried 
using YDL without plugging it into an electrical outlet.
