I am having trouble installing YDL 3 on an 8500 with an adaptec 2940UW =
card
pulled from a powercenter pro.
=20
I am able to install to a drive connected to the scsi card, but when I =
go to
reboot, the system doesn't load the drivers necessary to allow the root
partition to mount, and I get a kernel panic during boot.
=20
The installer clearly indicates "loading AIC-7xxx" drivers (or something
similar) and is able to see, partition and install to the drive. I then
restart the computer, set BootX to load the vmlinux-2.4.20-8d kernel, =
and
specify "/dev/sdb8" as the boot partition (as instructed by the =
installer).
I have tried checking and unchecking the "force scsi" without success. =
When
the system tries to boot into linux, I can see the MACE onboard scsi =
being
recognized, as it enumerates the partitions on /dev/sda, but sdb never =
shows
up.
=20
I am able to install and boot from the puny 1GB drive which I have =
attached
to the motherboard scsi, but it is not large enough for anything but the
most basic install. When this install boots, it doesn't see the scsi =
card
or drive either.
=20
Is there some basic thing I'm not doing? Some other distros seem to use
initrd as a ramdisk to load drivers, but it seems YDL does not? Is =
there
some other way to instruct the installer to install the drivers? Is =
there
some file I'm missing somewhere?
=20
Someone on some other post from a while back said something about not =
being
able to boot to drives on a scsi card (which could be used if booted =
from
another drive), but the 2940 is on YDL's list of approved and supported
hardware....
