As I recounted in a recent posting, I had exactly the same problem and was
able to solve it by just running Xautoconfig. Perhaps this will help you.

Hi all,
    I've been trying for two weeks now to configure the X server =
correctly for my GeForce 2 MX card with Apple 15 inch LCD.  The =
best I've been able to do is get a subsection of my screen working =
(640x480 centered in the screen).  I've looked through a lot of the =
old postings and couldn't find a solution there.  I was wondering =
if this problem had been resolved or not.  Any help would be =
appreciated.
