kppp probe is pretty straight forward. if it is "failing' or not seeing 
you modem chances are your modem is not a hardware modem. you have two 
options, one is get a pcmcia hardware modem or try to use the win modem 
howto on YDL's site.

I could never get my internal modem working on my TI powerbook so I use 
a pcmcia modem I had from an older laptop
