Two questions

My first question is does any one know of a program that allows you to 
resume downloads.  I know that the browser I am using has a pause and 
resume, but if the connection is lost and you reconnect it will not 
start downloading again.  Of course if I hit cancel and try again it 
starts at the beginning.  I know on the mac it has programs to do this, 
but I do not know of any for linux.  My second question is does any one 
know of a good program to test different components on a machine for 
linux.  I know for the mac you have TechTool Pro and Norton Utilities.  
I want to be able to test the modem and I mean much more then just a 
simple query.  I would also like to test the memory and the monitor.  I 
am trying to do this for a friends pc that I loaded linux on.  It is an 
amd machine and I would like to run these test so I can verify if any 
thing is going bad before it does.
