iBook running on external monitor

Hello,

Just joined the list, and just installed YDL at the weekend.

Anyway, to the point. I'm running an iBook ( not the original coloured one
but the white one that came next.. iBook 2?? ) and want to get it running
with an external monitor. Have read online about adding novideo to yaboot,
but husband is telling me I need to update my kernel.  Anyone familiar with
this one?
