starting mol

I just finished installing YD 3 and it boots up sweet. I configured 
video and the molrc and have attempted to start mol and ran into 
trouble. I thought I had it, but the screen just fills with the apple 
hugging penguin and sits there. Can anyone give me an idea of where to 
start my trouble shooting or what to look for in the archives? I tried 
various searches with an ocean of results.
