I turns out to just be some missing symlinks. Here is how you solve it. 1. Become root 2. run 'pdisk -l' 3. make note of the files that can't be opened in the /dev directory because of 'No medium found'. 4. go into /dev and make symlinks from cdrom and, if appropriate, dvd to the files identified in step 3 HTH -Chris
