successful install on beige g3 300, but really slow (?) why?

Thanks to all who got back to me...

-I'm using the fbdev driver for my ati rage 128 video
card, 3915 kb memory size.

-according to the kde info center, my processor
details are as follows:
cpu- 740/750
temperature- 39-41c (uncalibrated)
clock- 300mhz
revision- 2.2 (pvr 0008 0202)
bogomips- 601.29
machine-power macintosh
motherboard- aapl, powermac g3 MacRISC
detected as- 49 (PowerMac G3 (Silk))
pmac flags- 00000000
l2 cache- 1024k unified pipelined-syncro-burst
memory- 256mb
pmac-generation- OldWorld

so...i guess my processor is going at it's correct
speed...i think that's what all this means...

-i'm definitely going to check out a lighter window
manager, seems that that may be the best thing to
do...
