I admire your tenacity. ;)
Ok- most everything in the directory /etc/init.d is a script that starts some sort of service. You can restart them like so:
as root do:
/etc/init.d/lpd restart
/etc/init.d/cups restart
Log in as root if you have to or just become root but you really do need to get your username added to /etc/sudoers so you can use sudo.
Pedro- there is never an email address for you. When I hit 'reply' it only gives me <pedro regis> as an email address. Do you have any idea why? What is your email address please?
