Gentlemen:
I currently have a firewire drive already installed which is formatted
for the Mac OS and it is visible on the Mac Desktop. Also interesting
enough it is also visible to the Linux tree after I mount it.
Having said that I hope that it is clear that the real problem is really
whether the Apple HD software can see and partition the firewire drive
for use by Linux. My version of that software cannot because firewire
was developed after I got the Mac I use. However, more current OS
software may be able to do so -- I don't have the means to test this
proposition. You probably to have this question answered best by your
local Mac User group and set up a test on their equipment.

After the correct partitioning and preparation is done on the firewire
drive theoretically there should not be a problem in YDL seeing the
drive and loading Linux onto it. To my thinking things should move
forward as any other HD installation.

But I've a question, why install it onto a drive you still have to lug
about. Why not put Linux on a CD or DVD?? Of course the way things are
going CD's and DVD's are going to be replaced by SDs and Flash cards
eventually as their capacity increases or the new tiny high capacity AAA
size 100+G HDs (which should be available in a few months) but why not
use what you have?

This might be something to play or experiment with now. The question
then becomes what software would allow you to prepare a CD or DVD such
that Linux (YDL) will run off it? Sounds like an interesting problem to
me...

Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be
replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another which states that this has already happened.
