Is It Possible to Upgrade YDL?

I have YDL 3.0.1, but notice how the apps are one or two versions 
behind the latest stable (I didn't say bleeding-edge) release. Is there 
any way to upgrade the major apps -- KDE, Gnome? After trying almost 
every PPC distro -- Gentoo, Debian, Mandrake -- YDL is the easiest to 
install (and that's saying something when it comes to Linux) and most 
Mac-friendly distribution available. I just want newer versions 
(especially Gnome) of my favorite apps and window environments.  Thanks.
