What are Source CDs for

Ah the Romantic Spirit...
Let's see... Hot Desert Sun... No cover or Forest... I didn't notice any
water; certainly not fresh water...which means no food which this
technologically raised citizen will ever recognize as food.

Think about it... we think of KFC and MacDonald's as food; but in the
wild "food" runs away and is very, very devious in trying to preserve
it's life. It is not anxious to become dinner, and dinner is only
"dinner" after killing, dressing and so on. You really think this
character who has been drugged and fed nutrients into his veins all his
life is going to know how to do all this?

C'mon, kids at camp can't wait to get back to the Mess Hall (or
where-ever modern food is served at camp) to get their Cocoa Puffs!!
Tell them to hunt for their eggs and bacon and see what kind of response
you get. Try to tell that to any civilized citizen, Paris Hilton
maybe??

No... given Nature's demanding reality...I think he became food for the
ants and other desert creatures...What he got, if anything was a chance
to breath fresh untreated, unfiltered un-airconditioned air; I don't
think he comprehended how to "survive" in a real living untechnological
ecosystem. Besides the character in Logan's Run had more personal
dynamism to survive than THX-1138 did. He had yet to discover what that
was himself; let alone apply it.

I would have shared your opinion some years ago; but now...as I've
explained above... I don't get that he would have had any real chance as
there was nothing in his background to prepare him for Nature as it is.
At least in many modern societies, children are encouraged, some would
say forced, to deal with the rituals of camp or camping. Remember that
even the children were drugged and artificially fed; such a society in
confronting Nature just dies... I don't see another answer.

Let's consider a different tack...how would such a character know what
the cardinal points/directions are? Let alone know which was what
direction on a cloudy day? No GPS...No watch...Hmmmm OK, let's say he
finds someplace, how would he know enough to return to it?? The old
ways were to guide oneself by the stars...but he wouldn't know how to do
that. And he certainly wouldn't know woodscraft and what moss along the
side of a stone or tree meant...and those are the simple clues!

Nope...I think after all he went through he hit fresh air and thought he
had died and experienced the ultimate extasy; which for a few is exactly
what death actually is.
