Cannot Login after New Install

When Installing Yellowdog 3.0 on my iMac, I see a message at the end of the installation that the username I created does not exist. After the system reboots and brings up the login screen, my username and password is not recognized and I cannot log in. Also, the system clock is wrong. Could the clock malfunction cause the login problem?
