Overlaying YDL 4 on YDL 3

I previously asked about updating KDE on YDL 3 using the YDL 4 CDs.

Andrew wondered why I didn't just upgrade everything. The reason is 
that in my ignorance, I didn't want to screw up my triple book Pismo 
setup.

Is there any particular danger to yaboot in installing 4 over 3, 
blanking out what's there as if it were a new install? Is there 
something more graceful that updates from 3 to 4 without a new 
install?
