YDL 4.0 on Wallstreet?

Hello.
Ist it possible to install the new YDL 4.0 on a G3 Powerbook Wallstreet?
the support list says yes. But i tried to boot the included kernel to
run the install program anaconda and it failed. 

The kernel stops after : 

Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.6.8-1.ydl.7
[...]
current = c035c930,  pid = 0, comm = swapper.


Is it possible to run the installer with an 2.6.5 kernel? 
i compiled this version some time ago, but it does not recognize the
ram disk.

Now i have YDL 3.0.1 installed. I can not play with some kernel options
to try to get it running, because the wrong version of gcc is installed.
Help me please.
