Configure video for G4 powerbook

Do you mean it does not start at all, just sitting at a
DOS-like-text-mode login?
 If so, login as root and edit inittab to use runlevel 5:
$] pico /etc/inittab

look for this line:
id:3:initdefault:

change it for:
id:5:initdefault:

save and quit (CTRL-X) and reboot.
