how to ... burn a DVD via Linux

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out to burn a data DVD via Linux (YDL 4.0).

I read the HOW TO from Troy, but I get stuck when I issue the command:
cdrecord -scanbus
My external drive is not recognized, and I don't known what device should
be.

By the way, could I burn a DVD with growisofs ?
