Start up problems

Hi everyone;

Some time ago I installed YDL 3.0.1 on an imac.  All went fine for a 
while as I slowly explored my way around it.  I had just started 
connecting online when it went awry and refused to boot right.

I'm running an iMac 333 mhz.

It starts its bootup and gets to "Determining IP information for eth0... 
failed: no link present.  Check cable?"

Then it says "Bringing up interace ppp0:"

... and stops. If I leave it there till Christmas 2007 it will still be 
sitting doing nothing.

I don't yet know enough about this software to know what I should be 
doing / looking for in order to fix this.

Any help greatly appreciated.
