problems with USB flash drive

No luck with "ls /media":
ls: /media: No such file or directory
The drive doesn't show up on my desktop or in the home window of Konqueror.
I'm wondering if it needs to be formatted or something. It does show up
using the how-to instructions from TerraSoft, however, so clearly the system
does see the drive:
