Can't boot into YDL after installing Tiger

I am unable to boot into YDL after I installed Tiger.

Setup:   G4 AGP Graphics, two scsi disks on pci controller

I created the Apple boot partition and YDL partitions of the first
disk, installed YDL on first disk.  So far, so good.  After installing
YDL on first disk, I installed Tiger on second disk.  Now I am unable
to boot into YDL.   Yaboot is getting started, but I think my
yaboot.conf is hosed somehow.

I start up in OF and cannot seem to get the OF device string correct
to boot into YDL correctly.  When I try the following I get an OF
error:

boot /pci/ADPT,39160 at 4/@1:3,\vmlinux

I've tried to boot from cd-rom with the following:

boot:  root=/dev/sda3

and get the error:

"warning:  can't initialize console"   at which point it just hangs

what am i missing here?
