Others have mentioned the obscure but standard keyboard and mouse
methods.  I'll mention that these sort of functions are usually found
on the "Edit" menu of applications that support it.  Often there are
also tools in the toolbar for cut, copy, and paste.  In the case of
OOWriter, it has both the "Edit" menu, and the toolbar tools.
