My experience in ppc systems is mostly providing operations and
some programming support for AIX and VOS based proprietary ppc systems.
I don't have significant experience working within the open source
universe when compared against these other skills.

In addressing your question quickly, "the best distro" for you depends
upon what you are doing with your ppc. Fedora is an open source
project supported by volunteers. Fedora has provided ppc support for a
long time, but there is no promise that it will continue to do so.
Indeed, other open source distributions have made the choice to drop
support for the ppc for a various reasons.

Fedora, just like all other similar linux distributions which support
the ppc, are split in the service and attention they provide. In brief,
their primary support is of the x86 version of their software and then
later they adapt that software so that it may be recompiled within
ppc systems. These projects cannot design for or address the unique
hardware elements within ppc systems which either don't exist or are
implemented differently in the x86 universe.

TSS, the designers of YDL, are specialists in ppc technology.

YDL alone, of all the linux distributions, has the full attention of
professionals who can maximize what the ppc can do. It is true that not
everyone needs such expertise if one is merely surfing the net within
Firefox on a ppc. However, if you are engaged in advanced commercial
work requiring the unique characteristics of the ppc or other work
requiring the special advantages of ppc hardware then TSS is the company
you want and YDL is the linux distribution you need.

Because of my interests in advanced areas of various sciences the ppc
is my cpu of choice and YDL the linux distro I need.

========
The scientist's religious feeling takes the form of a
rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which
reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, in
comparison with it, the highest intelligence of human beings
is an utterly insignificant reflection. This feeling is the
guiding principle of his life and work.
