Video Resolution Problems on PS 3

I installed YDL 6.0 and selected the 1080i video mode but when it booted,
the screen was not completely used and also the graphics and text are
terrible.   Did I do something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated as I am thinking that this is a waste of time
if I can't read text on a HDTV.

By the way, I have a HDMI to DVI connection and PS3 gives no problems
