 Thanks to the folks on the #linuxppc IRC channel, I managed to have
solved my serial console problem. It turns out that I was using two things
that didn't work 1) a Palm USB/Serial adapter - should be using Keyspan 2)
a bad serial cable - pin-out wasn't good.

 It turns out that mingetty, despite what it says in its man pages works
fine. And once I had the right baud rate, I could connect with my
Palm Cradle without any problems. Proof is here:
