Kevin,

Some instructions to get you going on the install. Once you have this part
done, I'd be happy to help you get further (as I figure these things out):

First, you need to make four partitions. I did them in this order:

32MB HFS partition for bootstrap and swapping files
4GB MacOS parition (HFS+, though you should probably use HFS instead)
1.5GB Apple_SVR2 partition (the linux format)
100MB Apple_SVR2 partition (for swap)

if you do it this way, bootstrap will be hda9, the MacOS hda10, Linux
hda11, and swap hda12.

Then, you need to get yaboot from the YellowDog CD. It's in the install
folder. Copy it to the bootstrap partition (at the root
level) along with the file ramdisk.tar.gz. You'll need to create a file
called 'yaboot.conf' in the same place. This is just a simpletext file
that looks like this:

timeout = 5
default = linux

image = hd:9,\vmlinux
label = linux
initrd = ramdisk.tar.gz
initrd-size = 8192
root = /dev/hda11

You'll need to download a new kernel from BenH's site:
http://ppclinux.apple.com/~benh/vmlinux-2.2.17pre13-ben1.gz

(that's the latest precompiled kernel he has up. the one on the CD is too
old, doesn't support pismos.)

Uncompress it with MacGZip from

http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&id=2581/MacGzip_FAT_1.1.3.sit.hqx

and put it on boostrap. rename it 'vmlinux'.

now you're ready to install...
reboot your computer, with the YDL CD in, holding down cmd-option-O-F
to get into open firmware

type 'boot hd:9,yaboot.tbxi' at the open firmware prompt

the installation should now proceed normally. you won't be able to
configure X or your mouse, so just skip those steps. Let me know when you
get this far, and I'll try to help you get a mouse and X working.

In the meantime, some good info and links are available from:

Good luck!
Josh Davidson
