I had the same problem on a Ti PowerBook something to do with the install
2.4.XX kernel.

When the boot prompt appears hit tab and a range of other kernel installs
come up.
Choose one of the old kernels ie install-kernel22-text or somethin like that
and that will then mount the cd no problem.

I'd try the other boot kernels first..
