Domain name?

oK...

I am on a cable RoadRunner internet connection. The cable modem is
connected to a gateway connected to an ethernet hub connected to my
computers. One of these computers is my 7200/120 linux box.

Is it possible to make the linux box function as a domain name server,
creating a root-level (is that how you call it?) domain name, such as
www.domainname.com. Also, can I run POP3, http, telnet, and ftp servers
on this same machine as well (with the domain name I create)?

All I want is a real hostname for the machine. It seems I need this to
get proftpd working, and certainly I need it for an email server. Even
if it is machinename.dhcp-05.woh.roadrunner.com.

How would I configure this???
