I've finally managed to install YDL despite my "bad cd" problem.
Because I have the impression others have had the same problem I'm
posting a step by step here.

-make sure you have 2 hfs partitions, one small the other about 700megs
-i'm going to call the small one partition 10 and the big one partition
11, don't forget to substitute
-download the iso image to the large partition
-use the latest apple disc copy to mount it
-copy "yaboot", "yaboot.conf", "vmlinux", and "ramdisk_x11_image.gz" to
partition 10
-edit yaboot.conf so it refers to the correct ramdisk filename, in some
cases some filenames are changed
-reboot holding down cmd-opt-o-f
-when you get a prompt type "boot hd:10,yaboot"
-just press return at the yaboot prompt
-when you get into the installer press opt-ctr-f2
-type the following:

cd /mnt
mkdir temp
mount /dev/hda11 temp
mount -r temp/pomona-2.0-20010602-install.iso media -o loop

-press opt-ctr-f1 to return to the installer
-go ahead and install!

Hopefully this helps some people
