I'm having a problem on the other end -- after playing MP3s for
a couple of hours, my system panics & reboots. I suspect the
audio drivers (and the occasional MPEG error) are the problem
here.
So far, I've found the Linux MP3 players to be much less robust
than SoundApp or iTunes: hitting a bad patch in the file,
xmms either drops the file or core dumps. Mpg123 gets past some
errors (with the -y flag) but not all. In contrast, SoundApp
makes an occasional "bloop" or pop and iTunes just smooths it
over.
Kernel is 2.2.18 (kernel.org), patched for MoL, on a beige G3/266
with 416MB RAM and a USB card. Both drives are IDE. Will a 2.4.{18,19}
kernel help, and do the kernel.org sources compile for PPC, or should
I just switch to OS X?
