now that I've ventured over to the MacOS X world I was wondering if there were any mailing lists out there that I might find as useful as this one. I have a few basic questions but they seem too of topic to ask on this list.

while I'm asking questions...I'm having trouble installing YDL on my G4. My partition map seems o have gone haywire or something. When I boot the installer everything goes smoothly until I have to edit my partitions. I setup the partitions the way I want them, reboot, and when I try to go any further with the installation I can't. At first I was getting a message that said that the device was buisy, now I get a message that says that it can't read the partition map. OK I'll agree with the installer there's something wrong with the partition map. When I look at it with fdisk in the installer it looks they way I want it to be: five partitions, one for /usr/src another for /usr/local, the third /home then /root and finally a swap. BUT under MacOS X these show up as one HFS partition (which is the way I originally had it before trying to install YDL) and pdisk says the drive is a 628MB partition only which is very very wrong.

I'm all out of ideas of what to do other than format the disk and start over but I would like to avoid this and not have to re-install and configure three OS's.

thank you,
robert m.
