Hi - I am not sure exactly what you need to modify in order to fix the
specific problem, but I think I can tell you how to get into a shell so
that you can poke at your config files, make modifications, etc.

1. Boot back into the installer.
2. Step through the install as you would normally do, but stop as soon
as you get the message about the CD being initialized. Right after
you select the install media, if I recall correctly.
3. I forget the name of the key with the apple on it. Command maybe? In
any case, hold down that key, fn, and F2. That should drop you to a
   command prompt.
4. Do a mkdir mnt
5. Do the ol' mount -t ext2 /dev/hda? /mnt bit, where ? is the
   number of your root partition.
6. In theory, you can now access your root filesystem via /mnt/whatever.
7. umount /mnt when you are done tinkering.
8. I don't think reboot, shutdown, etc. are available, so you might need
to brute force you way out of the installer.
