Hi,
I have been given a G4 400Mhz AGP at my new job, and I'm having no luck
getting ydl2.0 (or for that matter, suse 7.1) installed.
This is my first time with a new-world mac and yaboot, but I've been running
ydl 1.2 via bootx on my pbg3 for a couple of years.
I boot from the cd, and get the prompt
boot:
No matter what install choice I make (install-novideo, install-gui, etc.),
the ramdisk or ? Starts to load, and the last line that appears on the
screen before it goes blank is something like:
openpic: exit
(It happens pretty fast, so I'm guessing a bit.)
I've tried passing the video=aty128fb:vmode:xx
Kernel args with various values for xx, as recommended in the archives, but
nothing I've put in works. I admit that I don't know what xx to put in for
my display (17" apple studio monitor CRT - with the see-through casing).
Another tidbit I gleaned from the archives is that there may be a problem
with those G4's that came stock with a DVD-ROM, which mine did - something
about a dvd decoder card causing an installation to abort. Can anyone tell
me more about this? I'm not to knowledgeable about such things.
Here is my set up:
AGP G4 400MHz, 20GB stock hard drive, 256MB stock RAM
Stock DVD-ROM replaced with a SONY CD-RW
Non-stock 8.5 GB SCSI HD with adaptec2 scsi card.
All works well on MacOS9.1
Thanks in advance!
Alfonso
