RE: Root access and X Windows Thanks for the help! By the way - how do I use an X-Windows client such as eXodus to connect to my YDL machine (I want to put it in a colo., and prefer to be *able* to access it via X). Thanks again.

Root doesn't have telnet abilities... security reasons.

What you have to do is create another user give them telnet abilities. Use telnet and the new account to log into the machine and "su" form there.

How do I connect to my YDL machine with eXodus? I've tried the commands
in the docs and other UNIX manuals, and get "permission denied" errors.

Also, how do I get root access remotely? Should I modify the telnet
daemon source to let me do so, or is there a more secure connection
  technique?

      Thanks for your help.
