Subject: Finally, a working kernel build

Since I prefer lean, mean kernels over the bloated, generic
ones included in distros, I finally got a working kernel based
on the 2.2.19 source included with YDL 2.0 (which is *not* the
same as a stock 2.2.19 kernel as a recursive diff told me).
The xconfig scripts apparantly have a bug. In my desired
config, IP chains is turned off (no point on a laptop), but if
you simply load in my config and do a "Save and Exit", IP
chains gets turned back on. If, after you load the config, you
go look at the setting, it *is* off. Apparantly, it not until
the actual save that it gets turned back on. However, the mere
act of looking at the option and not changing anything and
*then* saving saves it without IP chains. Wacky.
Anyway, my kernel is about half the size of the pre-built one
included with YDL 2.0. I also built the latest 3.1.29 PCMCIA
modules (as opposed to the 3.1.23 that comes with YDL 2.0) and
at least the IDE adapter (which I used to mount my old
PowerBook hard disk and copy my files back across) and the
Wavelan wireless adapter work fine.
