Your description sounded very similar to a problem I occasionally have when
I try to launch BootX from the Finder. Sometimes my machine doesn't like
that, and hangs in the same spot you described. I never have this problem
when I launch Linux from BootX *at startup*, before MacOS has booted.
Don't know if that has any relation to what you're doing; hope it helps. :-)
