I'm having a problem getting CS1.1 to deal with this card - perhaps it's
a strange implementation that just won't work??

Here's my setup:
        PowerBase 200, 144mb ram
Farallon Fast EtherTX-10/100 (uses DEC 21143 controller)
        MacOS 8.1
        CS 1.1

The card works just fine under MacOS.

The default kernel with the de4x5 driver compiled in sees the card,
reads the MAC address correctly, and thinks it starts up just fine -
brings up eth0 with IP and AT addresses. However, the card doesn't work
- pings to known operating IPs on the same net don't work, the transmit
count stays at 0. The LED for 10mbps lights up (it's on a 10bT network,
so that's good), but the link LED never comes on.

Here's what else I tried:

-Recompile kernel w/de4x5 and tulip drivers as modules. I can modprobe
either one and it sees the card just fine, but it won't work.

-insmod tulip.o debug=6 option=12 //force 10bT

After modprobe or insmod of either module, "ifup eth0" completes without
error, but the link light never comes on and the machine cannot ping out
or be pinged.

I've got quite a few linux machines here - this is the first ppc I've
set up, and everything else works just great. I love running KDE &
Gnome on my 20" monitor, but without the network I can't really _use_ it
- any suggestions?

P.s. I tried to find old postings on dejanews - is there another archive?
