This is mainly for the guy who was asking, but also to publicaly humiliate
myself.

I still don't fully understand ldconfig, the ld.so.conf file and such nor
printenv and "export" (all these I used to varying degrees to come up with
my fix) but the piece that really fixed me up was deleting the new QT 2.01
libraries I had installed a time ago so that the configure app pointed to
the older 1.4x libraries.

Came across this fix when I was trying to compile a non KDE app and it
screwed up when trying to compile a QT 2.01 headerfile... I figured that
QT 2 support will come with KDE 2 and, for now, the code was all wrong for
KDE 1.1.2.

So yeah: for that guy who had the same problem, check that you aren't
"exceeding" the requirements of KDELIBS. You might have a version of a
library that is too new.

Thanks to all.
