Yellow Dog Linux Security Announcement
--------------------------------------

Package: vim
Issue Date: July 25, 2001
Priority: medium
Advisory ID: YDU-20010725-13

1. Topic:

Updated vim packages are available which fix
        a potential security problem.

2. Problem:

"Users could embed malicious VIM control codes into a
file - as soon as any user opened that file in vim-enhanced
or vim-X11 with the status line option enabled in .vimrc,
the commands would be executed as that user."
        (from Red Hat's security advisory)

3. Solution:

           a) Updating via yup...
We suggest that you use the Yellow Dog Update Program (yup)
to keep your system up-to-date. The following command(s) will
automatically retrieve and install the fixed version of
           this update onto your system:

                   yup update vim
                yup update vim-common
                yup update vim-enhanced
                yup update vim-minimal

           b) Updating manually...
The update can also be retrieved manually from our ftp site
below along with the rpm command that should be used to install
the update. (Please use a mirror site)

                   ftp://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/updates/yellowdog-2.0/ppc/RPMS/
                rpm -Fvh vim-5.7-8.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh vim-common-5.7-8.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh vim-enhanced-5.7-8.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh vim-minimal-5.7-8.ppc.rpm
