Yellow Dog Linux Security Announcement
--------------------------------------

Package: openldap
Issue Date: August 10, 2001
Priority: high
Advisory ID: YDU-20010810-3

1. Topic:

        Updated openldap packages are available
        that fix security vulnerabilities that
could allow a remote user to crash a
        server.

2. Problem:

"When subjected to the PROTOS LDAPv3 test suite, versions of
OpenLDAP 1.2 through 1.2.11 and 2.0 through 2.0.7 were found to
have vulnerabilities which could be exploited by causing them
to attempt to decode an improperly encoded request. These
vulnerabilities were fixed in OpenLDAP 1.2.12 and 2.0.8."
        (from Red Hat security advisory)

3. Solution:

           a) Updating via yup...
We suggest that you use the Yellow Dog Update Program (yup)
to keep your system up-to-date. The following command(s) will
automatically retrieve and install the fixed version of
           this update onto your system:

                   yup update openldap
                yup update openldap-clients
                yup update openldap-devel
                yup update openldap-server

           b) Updating manually...
The update can also be retrieved manually from our ftp site
below along with the rpm command that should be used to install
the update. (Please use a mirror site)

                   ftp://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/updates/yellowdog-2.0/ppc/RPMS/
                rpm -Fvh openldap-1.2.12-1a.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh openldap-clients-1.2.12-1a.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh openldap-devel-1.2.12-1a.ppc.rpm
                rpm -Fvh openldap-servers-1.2.12-1a.ppc.rpm
