"showkey -k" in a virtual terminal [ie the balck screen w/ text]. To get
there type <ctrl>-<apple>-1, and <ctrl>-<apple>-7 to get back. Also "xev
&" in a terminal window but the keycodes may be too high by 8. This will
also give mouse movement information.
