Subject: MOL incompatible with glibc-2.2?

Hi,
I recently upgraded to XFree86-4.0.2. Works fine so far. However, the
upgrade triggered some dependency problems. 4.0.2 needs pam-devel
0.72-32.2. The same version of pam (needed by pam-devel) needs db1, which
rpm tells me is incompatible with glibc-2.1.3.
I therefore also upgraded to glibc-2.2. This is when things got bad. MOL
would crash within minutes of being launched, with the following error
message:
**** SIGNAL Illegal instruction in thread main-thread
This is remarkable since MOL has been very stable in my hands. I've had my
share of cursor-related freezes, but MOL has never core dumped before.
Suddenly more crashes than I could count in a few hours.
To check if XFree-4.0.2 or glibc-2.2 was to blame, I downgraded to
glibc-2.1.3, ignoring the protests from rpm. This fixed the problem. MOL is
again stable, and everything else works fine. I conclude that the problem
is with glibc-2.2.
I wonder if this is a bug in glibc-2.2 or a more specific problem with MOL?
I also had one or two Netscape crashes after the upgrade, but this does not
prove anything. I did not see anything like these repeated MOL crashes with
any other program.
Anybody knows more about this?
P.S. My system is a beige G3 with an ATI XclaimVR 128 card running the
2.2.18 kernel and KDE1. I'm using MOL-0.9.53-2 and MacOS 8.6.
