This happens because two processes cannot play sound simultaneously. All
processes that wish to play sound while sound is being played must block
and wait until the first process ceases.

There are various software mixing solutions (such as esound) which attempt
to solve this problem, but the applications need to support them
explicitly.

If you'd like to try out esound, stay away from the 0.2.18 rpms on
ftp.linuxppc.org, use the 17_helix ones instead.

Thanks,
Peter
