MOL will work fine on your existing lan, provided...

Answering 1 & 2...

You need to set up IP masquerading (ipchains) with a private
ip address for your local lan. Otherwise you will need another
public ip address which are difficult to come by.

IP forwarding is only 1 step in masquerading.
