I had the same problems whae I first started. The things that I did to
fix the problem were:
1. Edit the /etc/molrc file and to change to hda to w/r not just w/o.
2. Got a compatable Rom version. Not all roms work. The compatable
versions are 1.4, 1.6, 2.4 and 3.0.

I have been using 3.0 rom which can from a clean Mac OS 9.0 disk.

Good luck
