I think it acts as if it is a real ethernet device. That is to say, from
userland, /dev/tap0 is the same as /dev/eth0 except for some subtle
details.

It works well with ethertap. Without the sheep_net patch,
AppleShare-over-IP via PPP via ethertap was almost unusable, whereas it
seems to work mostly well with the patch, provided that some tcp/ip
activities occur previous to using AS IP connection.
