First make sure that you have the 8.6 upgrade (download from Apple if you
don't have it somewhere, all you need is the first installer image), second
download Tomeviewer from
http://filedudes.siol.net/mac/computil/files/tomeview.hqx
<http://filedudes.siol.net/mac/computil/files/tomeview.hqx> , third startup
tomeviewer and use it to open the first image of the 8.6 upgrade, find Mad
OS ROM, highlight it, and tell tomeviewer to extract it. Next take the 8.6
rom file and either place it in your system folder or put it on a disk that
is mountable in linux. I was never able to use the extraction procedure on
my startup disk, however I was able to do it by putting the ROM on a
mountable partition and extracting it that way...seems to work fine.

You can find very good directions at: http://www.turbolinux.com/~brad/mol/
(covers the basics as well as networking and kernel building). HTH

Cheers,
Eric

        Hello,

I'd like to install MOL on a mac 8500 with macos 8.6
and yellow dog 1.2 , but I'm not sure how to start.

The documentation all suggests that I should have
a rom file in my system folder, but I don't think
I do. I've searched using the finder, but I can't seem
        to find one anywhere.

The mac originally came with os 8.5 which I upgraded
to 8.6 with a package I downloaded from apple (I did
this some time ago and don't remember the exact
        details).

Do I need a rom file ? If so, how should I get one ?

        Thanks,

        Bill
