With regards to (a) . . do you have ip_forwarding set on?

With regards to (b)

I just got MOL working with my dial-up ppp connection, ethertap and
masquerading over the weekend.

Key for me was to the tap0 device use this setup

netdev: tap0 -sheep

Looks like the MOL tap driver is broken at the moment

Using sheep_net driver all worked fine. I assigned the mac side a fixed ip
of 192.168.1.2 and tap0 192.168.1.1 and ip_masq'd everything out through
ppp0. Works just fine.

I've got this on an old UMAX c500, 2.2.18pre18 rsync'd paulus kernel with
ip-masq stuff config'd, mol-0.9.53 and macos8.1

I put all the firewall/masq setup stuff in rc.local so its config'd at boot
time. I'm going to factor it out into different scripts later . . cable
modem is coming so I plan to have a much tighter firewall.

Anyhow, I'd be happy to send a copy of the relevant parts to my rc.local if
you'd like. There at home though and I'm at work.
