i tried to insmod sheep_net.o but got lots of unresolved symbols

You should also be able to change this setting for one boot by passing
the argument "keyboard_sends_linux_keycodes=1" after the kernel name at
the yaboot prompt.

You could then modify /etc/sysctl.conf (which does work on debian) to
fix it for the future.
